A new start

Andrea Carbonell

Those days at the beach are over, those late nights with your friends have ceased. I had to say “goodbye, I’ll miss you” to my summer love and I had to give a million kisses to my little sister. This summer was very intense because I knew what was coming: a new start; a new life.

Taking a plane with two gigantic suitcases, which are filled with your past life, to move into another country which has a different culture, language and customs from your home. Getting into a new house and getting to know people who I am going to live with for three years. Opening my suitcases and putting all my stuff into a new room.

I was afraid of starting university in a place where I don't know nobody: who was I going to talk to when I needed some help? Fortunately, my first week at Solent University hasn't been as harsh as I thought. In fact, I have been very welcomed and accommodated by every single person at University.

Getting to know my colleagues has shown me that I am not the only one who is scared and lonely in this city, and I had to leave my shyness aside to open up and make friends.

After this first week, living in a new country which will turn into my home, I am now delighted and ready to start this challenging adventure which will, hopefully, guide me to my aims and aspirations.
